BRAKE PAD FITMENT ISSUES for SUBARU WRX STi 1999
 
 
THE ENQUIRY/PROBLEM:
 
The following email was received with the attached pictures.
 
Please see attached pictures of my fitted DBA5000 which have just been purchased and fitted. What pads are suited to be  running with these rotors on a 1999 WRX STI as the current pads as seen in pictures don’t allow the DBA 5000 rotor to spin.
 



 
 
THE CAUSE:
 
This particular caliper uses the DB1170 brake pad. The DB1170 pad is manufactured with an inner and outer pad backing plate shape. The inner pad backing plate is fitted with a pad wear indicator where as the outer pad is not – refer diagram below. 
 
If the inner pad is fitted to the outside, the wear indicator will foul on the 5000 series hat as shown in the above pictures.
 
 

 
 
 
SOLUTION:
 
Fitting the correct inner pad to the inside and the outer pad to the outside will fix this problem.
